Don Shuler
Handmade Pottery for Everyday Use

I was first introduced to ceramics in college as an Art Major. In 1983 I earned my B.A. Degree from Arizona State University, in Studio Art, specializing in sculpture.

For the past 25 years I have taught art at the high school level. Eight of those years I’ve had the great pleasure of teaching ceramics, which has become my true passion. In addition to teaching, I have coached wrestling at the college and high school level for 30 years.

My pottery has been sold and displayed at the Lynchburg Community Market as well as some local coffee shops. I have also been commissioned to make specific pottery pieces for a variety of clientele. Many of my pieces have been sold at various local craft venues in our area. Some of my pottery has been featured in the Lynchburg Living Magazine.

I have a small pottery business called Providence Pottery. My studio is currently set up in my basement, where I make mugs, piggy banks, bowls, vases, tea sets, small pitchers and lanterns. All my work is Cone 6 Stoneware that is fired at (2,200 degrees), making it dishwasher and microwave safe and easy to maintain. I make all my own Glazes which are lead free and free of harmful chemicals, as well as safe for eating and drinking.

When I’m not working in clay, I enjoy hunting, hiking, canoeing and spending time with my family. I also still enjoy being involved in the sport of wrestling.
